If your garage already runs on lawn-equipment batteries — EGO POWER+® packs on the mower, Greenworks® packs on the trimmer and blower — it's natural to ask whether one of those can power a battery train horn. The honest answer: almost never directly, for a reason that has nothing to do with the shape of the mount — and there's exactly one lawn-battery platform where a workaround genuinely exists.
The short answer: it's a voltage problem, not a mount problem
Every battery-powered train horn we build runs on cordless tool batteries in the 18V–24V class: Milwaukee® M18™, DeWalt® 20V MAX™, Ryobi® ONE+™, Makita® LXT™, Bosch® 18V, Ridgid® 18V, Craftsman® V20™, Kobalt® 24V, Flex® 24V, and the rest of the tool-brand lineup. Outdoor power equipment (OPE) batteries live in a different world. Mower decks, chainsaws, and snow blowers need far more power than a drill, so lawn-tool makers built their platforms around much higher voltages: EGO® standardized on a 56V platform, and Greenworks® sells four separate platforms at 24V, 40V, 60V, and 80V. The horn's compressor motor, solenoid, and wireless receiver are all designed for an 18V–24V window. Feed them two or three times that voltage and you don't get a louder horn — you get a dead one.

EGO 56V: great battery, wrong voltage class
EGO® keeps things simple on their side: one 56V ARC Lithium™ platform, with packs from 2.5Ah up to 10Ah, all interchangeable across every EGO tool. That's a genuinely good system for a lawn — and completely incompatible with an 18V–20V horn. At roughly three times the horn's design voltage, a 56V pack connected through any passive adapter would push that full voltage straight into the compressor motor and remote receiver.
And here's the part most compatibility guides skip: as of July 2026, there is no plug-and-play adapter on the market that steps an EGO 56V pack down to 18V–20V tool output. What you'll actually find for EGO packs are wire-lead docks aimed at DIY e-bike and robotics builders — they pass the battery's full voltage straight through to bare wires. Useful for a custom project with its own voltage converter; a fried horn if you wire one to a device expecting 18V.
So if the loudest thing in your garage matters to you, the path runs through a tool-class pack. Our Extreme Series Train Horn for Milwaukee® 18v Battery pushes past 150 dB on a single M18™ battery — but that battery has to be an 18V-class pack, not your mower's 56V brick.
Greenworks: four platforms, and one of them actually lines up
Greenworks® splits its lineup across 24V, 40V, 60V, and 80V platforms, and packs only interchange within their own platform. For the 40V, 60V, and 80V lines, the verdict is the same as EGO: too much voltage, no safe direct path, no commercial step-down adapter that turns them into tool-battery output.
The 24V line is the exception worth knowing about. A Greenworks 24V pack sits in the same voltage class as the Kobalt® 24V and Flex® 24V tool batteries our horns already run on. There's no train horn with a native Greenworks mount that we know of, but aftermarket adapters that seat a Greenworks 24V pack onto DeWalt® 20V MAX™ tools are widely sold online. Pair one with a horn built for DeWalt® 20V batteries and you have a workaround that stays inside the safe voltage window. Go in with eyes open, though. The adapter makers themselves publish real caveats: these adapters aren't recommended for devices with sensitive electronics, you shouldn't run the pack down past its low-charge warning (the adapter bypasses some of the tool-side protection), and you shouldn't store the battery with the adapter attached. An adapter stack also adds one more connection point that can work loose from vibration on a truck bed or UTV rack. It works — but a native-fit pack is always the more reliable setup.
The cheaper, cleaner fix: one tool-class battery
Here's the math that usually settles it. A compact 2Ah battery in the 18V–20V class plus a charger costs less than most single lawn-tool packs — and a train horn sips power compared to a mower, so even a small pack delivers hundreds of blasts per charge. That one battery also opens up the whole 18V–24V ecosystem later — work lights, inflators, fans, and the rest. And if the reason you wanted to use a lawn battery is that the horn is going on lawn equipment, a tractor, or a golf cart, the mounting side of that question matters more than the battery side anyway.
FAQ
Can I use a DC-DC converter to run a train horn on an EGO 56V pack?
Generic buck converters that accept 56V input and output 18V–20V do exist in the electronics world, but there's no packaged, plug-and-play product for this — you'd be splicing into the horn's power path yourself. That kills the warranty, adds a failure point, and saves you nothing compared to the cost of a compact tool-class battery. We don't recommend it.
Does anyone make a train horn with a native EGO or Greenworks mount?
Not that we've found as of July 2026. Battery train horns across the market concentrate in the 18V–24V tool class, because that voltage window matches the compressors and electronics these horns are built around.
Will a Greenworks 40V, 60V, or 80V battery work through an adapter?
No. The adapters that exist for those platforms connect them to other lawn equipment or to bare-wire DIY docks — not to 18V–20V tool output. Only the Greenworks 24V line has an adapter path into tool-battery territory.
Wouldn't 56 volts make the horn louder?
No. Loudness comes from the compressor's air pressure and the trumpet design, not from feeding the motor more voltage than it was built for. Our horns range from 130 dB dual-trumpet models to 150+ dB Extreme and Boss Series setups, all on 18V–24V packs. Overvolting doesn't add decibels — it ends the horn's life early.
What should I buy if I own no tool batteries at all?
